After a years-long assessment, five U.S. intelligence agencies conclude it is ‘very unlikely’ an enemy wielding a secret weapon was behind the mysterious ailment

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced today that nothing can repair the damage caused to families in this country by the extreme measures taken by the United States based on falsehoods.

Havana, Cuba.- “After abusing unfounded accusations to impose measures against Cuba and going backward in bilateral relations, the US intelligence community finally admits there was no attack against its diplomats in Cuba, or elsewhere,” the minister detailed on Twitter.

He stressed that the same conclusion was reached after a rigorous investigation by the team of Cuban experts, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, and scientists who made the Jason report.

The day before, The Washington Post reported that US intelligence agencies ruled out that the mysterious ailments reported by diplomats from the northern country on the island in 2016 were due to attacks by a foreign adversary.

‘Havana syndrome’ not caused by energy weapon or foreign adversary, intelligence review finds

According to the digital version of the news outlet, which cites officials familiar with the investigation, it is unlikely that an enemy in possession of a secret weapon is behind the rare conditions.

Seven intelligence agencies were involved in reviewing approximately 1,000 cases of “abnormal health incidents,” the term the US government uses to describe a range of physical symptoms that include ringing in the ears followed by pressure in the head and nausea, headaches, and discomfort.

Five of these, he said, determined that it was “highly unlikely” that a foreign adversary was responsible for the symptoms, either due to intentional actions, such as a directed energy weapon, or as a byproduct of some other activity, including electronic surveillance.

The officials said they found no evidence, including forensic information or geolocation data, to suggest that an opposing country used a form of directed energy, such as radio waves or ultrasonic rays, he added.

The symptoms felt by US diplomats were first reported at the US embassy in Havana in 2016. Although similar incidents were later described in India, Russia, Vietnam, and even Washington, there were only reprisals against Cuba. (PL)
