Deputies insisted on the need to strengthen the management of the district delegates

Deputies to the National People's Power Assembly (Parliament) of Cuba on Tuesday highlighted the role of local organizations in the people's life since these structures define essential issues of daily life.

Havana, Cuba.- Several legislators, during a study session on the Constitution and the conformation of the State and the Government, referred to the relations between parliamentarians and those decision-making authorities.

They also addressed the links between the mayor, who exercises functions in the executive-administrative sphere, and the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, to which it is subordinate and accountable.

In this regard, they insisted on the need to strengthen the management of the district delegates (the grassroots electoral demarcation), who are in charge of handling the concerns of the population, as well as decision-making in the municipalities.

They stressed the importance of being prepared for these functions and knowing their role so that they can fulfill them adequately, besides making sure that the accountabilities of the quartermasters to these organizations do not become formal acts.

In the morning, Deputy Jose Luis Toledo gave a lecture in which he addressed the provisions of the Constitution regarding the organization, responsibilities, and work of Parliament, the Council of State, the President of the Republic, provincial governors, and local structures, among other positions.

This topic served as a prelude to the study of the laws governing the operation of municipal assemblies and provincial organizations, aspects that make up the agenda of parliamentarians today. (PL)
