Cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez was received with State honors by Serbia's President Aleksandar Vučić in this capital on Wednesday at the beginning of his first official visit to this country.

Belgrade.- I am convinced that this visit will give new impetus to strengthening the traditionally friendly relations between our two countries and deepening the political and economic ties,” the Serbian leader said.

At a joint press conference, Díaz-Canel described the meeting as very fruitful and stressed the honor of being in this capital in response to the invitation.

Vucic, in turn, reaffirmed the will to continue to strengthen the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that connect Cuba and Serbia and expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of political ties between the two countries.

We will conclude our visit with great optimism in the future of relations between the two States, and with absolute confidence that they will continue to strengthen and expand for the benefit of both peoples, the Cuban president stated.

The Serbian head of State pointed out that he was proud of the Cuban president’s visit because the Serbian people love Cubans.

We are independent, sovereign countries, and in the heart of Europe Cuba has a people who support it, Vucic emphasized.

He informed that they spoke about enhancing collaboration in sectors such as health care, tourism, biotechnology, agriculture, and sports, and thanked Cuba for its support for Serbia’s territorial integrity.

CUBAN PRESIDENT MEETS WITH SERBIAN PARLIAMENT SPEAKER

Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic met the Cuban President.Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez met on Wednesday with Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic, with whom he discussed the strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.

“I met with the president of the National Assembly of Serbia, Vladimir Orlic,” the Cuban head of State wrote on his Twitter account.

We share the interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties between Cuba and Serbia and the willingness to continue to strengthen the ties of friendship and collaboration between the two countries, noted Diaz-Canel, who is on an official visit to Serbia.

The meeting confirmed the two countries’ willingness to continue to boost and expand relations between the legislative bodies of both nations, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez tweeted.

Díaz-Canel Bermúdez is on a European tour that has already taken him to Italy and the Holy Site from where he will continue to France.

As part of his working program, the Cuban president met with his counterpart Sergio Mattarella, a group of Italian businessmen, and Qu Dongyu, director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The Cuban head of State also met with Pope Francis at the Holy Site, with whom he discussed the historic bilateral relations, and cooperation between the two countries and stressed the importance of promoting the common good.

Díaz-Canel Bermúdez will participate in the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact in Paris on June 22 and 23 as president of the Group of 77 (G-77) plus China. (PL)
