Fourteen Dominicans traveled to Havana on Sunday to join the 28th Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Volunteer Work and Solidarity with Cuba, from July 17 to 30.

Santo Domingo.- During their stay in Cuba, they will have a busy agenda, which includes tours of several provinces, days of productive work, and visits to sites of historic, economic, cultural, and social interest.

Roberto Payano, national coordinator of the Dominican Solidarity Campaign with Cuba, told Prensa Latina that they are very happy to be able to attend the activities dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, on July 26, 1953.

Shortly before leaving from the Las Américas International Airport, in this capital, Payano noted that of the total brigade members, four will travel to Cuba for the first time, and the rest have already had that experience, even more than once.

That is the case of Professor Aris Crispín, former director of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, in La Romana, for whom this is his 17th brigade, he added.

Payano noted that the representatives of solidarity come from the provinces of La Romana, La Altagracia, San Cristóbal, Bani, Duarte, the National District, Santo Domingo, Bani municipality (Peravia province), and the city of San Felipe, in Puerto Plata.

He pointed out that Martin Rosario, from San Francisco de Macorís and a resident in New York, traveled to his native country, where he joined the other members of the Dominican Solidarity Brigade to travel to Cuba.

On this occasion, the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade, from Puerto Rico, the 28th Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Volunteer Work and Solidarity with Cuba, the Brazilian Caravan, the Pastors for Peace Caravan, and the José Martí European Brigade, among others, will coincide in Havana.

It is an example of support for what Cuba and its revolution have meant in terms of solidarity with Latin America, Ecuador, and the world, Osvaldo Ovando, one of the members of the Ecuadorian brigade, told Prensa Latina.

The activist added that they also bring a donation of medical supplies, including anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers, antibiotics, anti-allergies, and antispasmodics.

We have done our bit, but we know it will help amid the difficulties caused by the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, Ovando said. (PL)
