More than three million medical consultations were carried out in the Primary Health Care

The Primary Health Care in Las Tunas consolidates the benefits, despite the limitations during 2019, a year of challenges and efforts.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to Dr. Gregory Pérez Héctor, provincial director of Health, this territory strengthens the Family Doctor and Nurse Program. The 550 doctor´s offices have specialists, some with residents in different years of the specialty, and graduates in Nursing.

“We managed to complete one hundred percent of these premises, as well as reservations in the 35 Basic Working Groups (GBT). This allows our doctors to leave their posts to participate in courses and other actions to improve or enjoy their vacations without affecting medical assistance.

“The completion of managers at that level also ensures the control of the permanence of doctors in the offices. We have the resource, but it is necessary to achieve more work productivity and the fulfillment of the schedules in order to reverse them in health for the people”.

Pérez says they focus their work in the rural area, where staff instability is more frequent due to the structural conditions of the doctor´s offices. In this calendar, the reparation actions are established among the priorities to guarantee the minimum living conditions.

“In 2019, 68 doctor´s offices were repaired, but more than 100 remain to be restored. Some municipalities are lagging behind in this activity and have a lot to do with the shortages of fuel in the country. That reality had an impact on the production of construction materials and the transfer to different places,” he explains.

Among the improvement actions, the categorization of the members of the GBTs stands out; this increases the quality of the service, as well as the graduations in different specialties such as Comprehensive General Medicine, Stomatology and others.

During 2019, more than three million medical consultations were carried out and a decrease of approximately 424 thousand consultations was achieved in ERs, both in polyclinics and hospital.

By 2020, that level of attention maintains the noble effort to solve most of the health problems of the inhabitants of Las Tunas. From there, they work to promote preventive health programs and increase the quality of care.
