Cuban health authorities reported 3,306 new COVID-19 infections, and with this figure, the Caribbean island surpassed one million cases detected since March 2020.

Havana, Cuba.— As of midnight, there were 17,443 confirmed patients hospitalized at home or in hospitals.

One death associated with the disease was reported.

With the latest update, Cuba accumulates 1,002,499 cases and 8,341 deaths.

With 419, the Holguín province reported the highest number of cases. It was followed by Camagüey, with 257, and Artemisa, with 245.

BOOSTER VACCINATION CAMPAIGN CONTINUES IN CUBA

The anti-COVID-19 booster vaccination drive continues this Monday in Cuba, where the pandemic tends to increase its incidence throughout the national territory.

With the approval of scientists and given the circulation of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, the process of administering a booster dose is being accelerated.

This process started in November and was established for those who completed six months after the first immunization; however, it was decided to speed up the process in the shortest possible time.

According to a message on Twitter from the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV), in charge of the Soberana 01, Soberana 02, and Soberana Plus products, by the end of January, all the vaccine-eligible Cuban population should have received their booster dose.

The IFV explained that the Cuban Soberana 02 vaccine can be applied as a booster of any previous immunization scheme such as the three-dose Abdala or other immunizing products used in any country.

Persons receiving this fourth injection must meet the requirement of having the complete vaccination scheme (three previous applications) and that at least three months have elapsed since the last injection.

It can also be administered to those who have passed COVID-19 and are fully vaccinated and to residents arriving in the country with some of the immunogens available internationally after six months from the final inoculation. (RHC)
