Singer Sandra Orce

With the same name as that Sandra who inspired Pablo Milanés, there is a woman from Las Tunas, faithful to her Puerto Padres roots, that illuminates the audience in each performance.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Sandra Orce is celebrating 40 years of artistic life and 26 Digital did not want to miss the opportunity to talk with her. And the dialogue begins.

"Since I was a little girl I liked to sing. I have no family history at the demonstration, although my father and grandfather had a fondness for the most beautiful form of beauty. The art instructor Argelio Puig discovered me and helped me grow."

The Enrique Peña Cultural Center, in Puerto Padre, opened its doors for her and it was in a group of girls called Atahualpa that she took the first steps. The following year, with said cast, she participated in the XI World Festival of Youth and Students, held in Cuba, and in other events, with good reception.

In the 80s, of the last century, this group separated, but our interviewee followed that path. “I was a fan for many years; I sang with Sol y Mar, Embajadores del Ritmo and others, and in 1996 I evaluated myself with the Origen group; in it, I learned from interpreting any genre to dancing and everything related to sheet music. I played the guitar and sang. I will always thank Máximo Pérez, its director, for the opportunity."

She also participated for many years in the Villa de los Molinos festival, obtaining multiple awards, including Best Performance and Popularity. “I will never forget Puerto Padre, it all started there. In 2000 I continued my solo career, even in that municipality and in 2004 I came to Las Tunas."

Singer Sandra OrceBOLERO HEART

The bolero is the genre that she is passionate about, although she has shown herself to perform in any section. “In my repertoire, there is rumba, country music, sones, ballads…, but I am more inclined towards this because it goes with my personality; I am very temperamental and, in addition, it allows you to play, within the melody, with the lyrics."

This interpreter has represented Cuba at the International Bolero Festival that takes place in Colombia. About her experience, after three opportunities sharing with the public of that nation, she affirms: “They like Cuban music a lot. It's amazing how they chant our songs. Many times I kept quiet because people were singing and that causes enormous pleasure."

She also participated, for almost a consecutive decade, in the Boleros de Oro festival, based in Havana and thanks to the support of Raúl de la Rosa, shared the stage with great artists such as Rosita Fornés, Mundito González and Elena Burke, in addition to galas at the América theater and different spaces with Haila, Laritza Bacallao and others. "All that fills me with pride."

Singer Sandra OrceFROM OTHER CHAPTERS

The Tea Party of Sandra Orce is one of her sleepless nights. She works at Huellas cultural center on the third Friday of each month, starting at 9:00 pm. She is also the host of "Boleros y algo más," an activity of the Uneac Provincial Committee, which takes place on the first Wednesday of each month, from 3:00 pm.

Although she is not a composer, once Máximo Pérez put music to a bachata of hers called Waiting for Springs and writes poems that she does not show to anyone. She holds the Raúl Gómez García Medal, the Paco Cabrera Plaque, the Cucalambé's Lute, among other awards.

Among her musical references, Elena Burke stands out and, when I ask her if she were a song, what would she be, she answered without hesitation: any bolero. Was expected.

Sandra has a daughter of the same name and two beautiful granddaughters. At the moment, her greatest desire is to have a record. Certainly, it would be inexcusable for a voice of such nature not to pass down to posterity.
