When around 80,165 students enter the classrooms of the 651 general education schools in Las Tunas for the new school year on September 4, normality will be completely returning to the sector.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This will be the first school year of 46 complete weeks in all of Cuba after COVID-19 and, therefore, the usual evaluation cycles and complete student dynamics will return; although, of course, some changes will also be maintained based on what has been learned during this time of pandemic.

The Vice Minister of Education, Dr. Cira Piñeiro Alonso, attended the preparatory meeting for the new school year in Las Tunas. This was emphasized by the directors at the preparatory meeting they held with the Vice-Minister of the sector, Dr. Cira Piñeiro Alonso. A dialogue in which she emphasized the commitment of the territory to support the stage and the vital importance of maintaining sensitivity to each specific situation that arises from all possible angles, enthroning the student, the family, and the symbiosis that is essential for the success of each school year.

Las Tunas has 95.3 percent of its teacher coverage, between the exodus of people and other reasons, this terroir lost around 1,51 teachers by the end of the previous stage and, with the support of retirees, teachers in training, various contracts, and other variants, it is expected to take on this stage.

Delays in the distribution of school uniforms were also reported. This situation is occurring mainly in the municipalities of Majibacoa, Jobabo, and Amancio, and should be reversed in the next few hours. And, on the sensitive issue of transport for the internal centers, it was reported at the meeting that of the 36 that require transport, only 24 are assured, so alternatives are being evaluated to comply with this particular issue in all the sites.

We also learned of delays in the investment plan, among other things "because we have not received cement since April, and we all know how complex the issue of construction is at the moment"; there is a lack of mattresses and other supplies in the internal centers, and the material basis for study at the start-up is also incomplete.

However, this is far from meaning - the participants in the meeting assured - that the return to the classroom will not be a process of joy, learning, and renewal; tempered, they said, to the current times and their enormous challenges. And they confirmed that, as the days go by, these problems will find a way forward and a solution.

At the meeting, they called for sensitivity at all times, especially on the part of teachers in the classroom and those responsible for guaranteeing the resources that enable the success of each process. Together, it is possible.
