Solidarity aid collected by activists of the Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (ANAIC) for the local Health System recently arrived in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The medicines and other materials are destined for the Dr. Ernesto Guevara General Teaching Hospital and other healthcare institutions of this eastern territory.

The donation, part of a larger shipment for several Cuban provinces, specifically consists of some 900 kilograms of various items that are distributed in medical care institutions. The disinterested contribution has a special significance not only because of the current economic situation on the Island, marked by the recession and the intensification of the US blockade but also because the issuers are also going through their own vicissitudes as a result of the war in Ukraine and the post-COVID-19 crisis.

Although in 2023 the ANAIC brigade members in the Italian region of Lombardy were unable to make their traditional annual trip to Las Tunas, they did maintain their solidarity actions with the Balcón del Oriente Cubano (Eastern Cuban Balcony). Besides the collection of material aid, they added other activities such as public meetings in which they denounce Washington's economic, commercial, and financial siege against the Antillean Archipelago, as well as its arbitrary inclusion on the spurious list of countries' "sponsors of terrorism". Likewise, they maintain other demands such as the immediate return of the territory illegally occupied by the United States in the Bay of Guantánamo.
