Researchers from Las Tunas opt for the Annual Health Prize

Thirty research by Public Health professionals in Las Tunas are competing this year for the Annual Health Award in the 46th edition of the contest. This call recognizes each calendar the best scientific results in the field of Medicine, aimed at achieving excellence in the sector's services.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dr. Eduardo Villamil Toranzo, president of the Provincial Council of Scientific Societies in the province, told 26 that this year the contest is dressed up with participants coming from different specialties, where six theses of masters and doctorates of the territory stand out, and the sample, in general, is characterized by the search to optimize services and more complete attention to the patient.

Villamil Toranzo said "This edition highlights a greater spirit of research in our professionals, in line with the demands of the sector at present. Compared to 2022, the contest grew in the number of works, but also in the depth of the approaches and their intentionality to generate more wellbeing for those who come to medical institutions."

The physician said that this achievement is due to the political will to provide more spaces with scientific demands, as well as to the excellent training of healthcare personnel. He highlighted the support of the local authorities as well as the Health Department and, of course, the essential link with the Zoilo Marinello University of Medical Sciences.

Ángela Iraice Leyva León, Doctor of Science and president of the jury, recognized the contribution of the proposals of the territory and their solution to daily demands. She also reiterated her pleasure in seeing how science and technology are intertwined for the better development of society as a whole.

Doctor of Science Maikel Santos Medina presented at the event a scientific study from the Cardiology Service of Las Tunas, for the creation and validation of a predictive scale of hospital death due to acute myocardial infarction, with national scope and including scientific variables from seven hospitals in the country.

The candidature also includes research papers that aim to achieve an educational intervention to modify knowledge on reproductive health in adolescents, others related to Geodermatology, an application that favors the care of patients with this condition, and the presentation of educational technology and its role in the teaching of Medicine.

In the modalities of the poster and face-to-face papers, studies concerning Primary Health Care, classified in the agenda to visualize phenomena such as population aging, diseases related to anemia in pediatric ages, and lipid fractions of cholesterol and triglycerides in patients in medical offices, are competing.

This week, the Annual Health Award will be announced, the most representative of the sector in a calendar of intense struggle and the highest distinction granted by the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba.
