The graduation in recent days of 67 professionals and 75 technicians in Nursing fulfills the need to increase the number of graduates and the quality of teaching activity in that career, two of the priorities set by the health sector for this year in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the delivery of degrees in the head city, Dr. María Elena Mawad Santos, rector of the Zoilo Marinello Vidaurreta University of Medical Sciences, announced that of the 67 new graduates 20 were specialized in Serious Adult Care, 20 in Serious Child Care, 15 in the service of Gynecology and three in Neonatology, which will help maintain the nurse-patient indicator in these risk departments.

The technicians will work in different care scenarios where their efforts are required. Mawad Santos said that all the graduates in the house of high studies this year have demonstrated the strength of their values and the ability of young people to achieve the proposed goals.

The Balcony of Eastern Cuba began 2020 with an availability of some 4,300 nurses distributed mainly in the Primary and Secondary levels of health care, of which more than 3,000 have university training and more than 200 are specialists. In addition, they benefit from various options for improvement.

The Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) designated 2020 as the Year of Nursing, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered a forerunner of modern professional nursing. The proposal aimed to highlight these personnel within health systems and to emphasize the importance of adequate training for their effectiveness in expanding universal health coverage.
