The 36th graduation from the Zoilo Marinello Vidaurreta University of Medical Sciences will deliver to the province more than 800 new technologists and professionals, according to statements by the rector of that institution, María Elena Mawad Santos.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Graduates were evaluated by highly scientific teachers, who confirmed the knowledge and skills achieved throughout years of study. Mawad Santos explained that due to the epidemiological situation that the country is going through, the titles will be delivered to them in a solemn act in their municipalities of residence, from July 20 to 24, with the presence of the University authorities, local governments and their families.
The new health professionals successfully completed their training in an atypical academic course, focused on education and work in real settings. During the last months, they had the possibility of integrating curricular and extracurricular activities, among them the work of health promotion and prevention in the programs to confront COVID-19 and arbovirus.
The Rector commented that in the course of this period, the medical university graduated 53 new First Degree specialists in branches such as Pediatrics, General Comprehensive Medicine, Gynecology and Stomatology. Specialization exams in the Second Degree and changes in the teaching category were developed during the period against the coronavirus.
The date of the accreditation of the Medicine major was reoriented, postponed for the second semester of this calendar, along with the specialties of Nephrology, Imaging, General Surgery and Internal Medicine, among others that will undergo evaluation. In turn, they have continued to work on the processes of integrality and employment location, which conclude this month.
Regarding continuing students, Eduardo Rondón Martínez, president of the University Student Federation in the center, told 26Digital that according to the indications of the national direction of Medical Teaching of the Ministry of Health, several subjects concluded by means of extra class work and others, for the qualifications obtained in the active inquiry in the Health areas.
Rondón Martínez said that the subjects that require more attendance to be evaluated will have 10 weeks of consolidation from September. Then there will be the final, revaluation and extraordinary exams for the first and second semesters. She added that the students have maintained the self-study with the support of the virtual classroom and the bibliography made available to them.
At these times, the cloister of the "Zoilo Marinello" reorganizes its spaces in order to maintain adequate physical distance in its classrooms, laboratories and residences. In the same way, strategies are drawn up so that the classes are carried out in a decentralized way in the different teaching scenarios that they have throughout the territory.
