Meeting between political authorities and leaders of the Yoruba Association

A meeting between political and government authorities and the top leaders of the Yoruba Association branch of this eastern province took place in the México community, in the municipality of Las Tunas, with the attendance of Carlos Álvarez Mayo, a Religious Affairs official of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Topics such as self-sufficiency, better commercialization of animals, the link with economic actors such as MSMEs, and the possession of a place to carry out the main activities of the association were on the exchange agenda.

Oscar Vargas, leader of one of the religious houses, expressed the importance of this dialogue and clarified, based on respect, that “we want religious unity. We, having all the customs brought by our ancestors, have turned this land into a sanctuary, and the only thing we ask for is respect, both in social and sanctoral life. We want there a venue for our Yoruba Association, to be that space in which the people can interact”. Likewise, he expressed the support of the religious for the Government and asked for reciprocity.

The appointment was accompanied by legal entities, which demonstrates, according to Carlos Álvarez Mayo, the interest that they can make use of their religious freedom. We need you as part of our society and to be able to move the country forward, he said."

In a pleasant dialogue, the importance of giving a little more coverage to the provincial subsidiaries when making economic decisions was transmitted; thinking, among other elements, of self-management and of that larger property that they require in the territory.

They also spoke about ethics, a very necessary aspect on which Álvarez Mayo pointed out: "We must ensure that proper social conduct is maintained so that no one associates you with criminal acts, and, thus, eliminate prejudices and maintain respect and the place you deserve in society.

There is a place in the México neighborhood t, for them sacred, where year after year ceremonies of great importance for the Cuban people and Afro-Cuban roots are held. It is expected that, soon, the official headquarters of the Yoruba Association of Cuba in the Balcón de Oriente (Eastern Cuban Balcony) will be in that space.
