Some ponds dedicated to fry development for commercialization

The Urban Farm agricultural-based business unit (UEB in Spanish) returns to aquaculture with priorities much more focused on productivity at medium and large scales, and a clear economic approach much better calculated from the possibilities of development that this program implies in the municipality, which exploits the potential in infrastructure and nutritional adaptation for cyprinids.

Jobabo, Las Tunas.- Alfredo Buedo Torres, director of the referred UEB, insists that regardless of the financial problems of the entity, which logically imposes limitations for the accelerated development of this and other programs, they have been able to complete five ponds with one million fingerlings and have guaranteed water to continue planting larvae.

According to the executive, the idea is to sell fry for the reservoirs and leave some ponds dedicated to their development until they reach the right size and weight for commercialization, which would yield good profits and strengthen Jobabo's food environment in about six months.

The opportunities of aquaculture with low production costs and taking advantage of infrastructures with conditions for the development of cyprinids are very good for Granja Urbana in a context that has to get out of its economic stagnation quickly.
