The leading political and governmental authorities of the province accompanied the Cuban historians in the main celebration of their National Day.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Several days ago it was announced that Las Tunas would host the event and it would coincide with the activities of the Cucalambeana Fiesta, just on the date on which Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo (El Cucalambé) would turn 194 years (July 1st).

That is why historians, combatants, and those who are passionate about these themes met in the José Martí Plaza to revere, first of all, Major General Vicente García González and the Cuban National Hero, and then give way to the celebration.

Among the most important moments was the delivery of the prize of the Historical Research Contest to the professors of the University of Sancti Spíritus, Jorge Godofredo Silverio and Carlos Gómez, thanks to their valuable research The racial problem in the Republic of Cuba: 1902-1958, Variables for its Study.

Ricardo Ávalos, acting president of the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC) in Las Tunas, highlighted the achievements in the investigations of facts and personalities that materialized here in recent years and the value of the organization's members.

For his part, Jorge Luis Aneiros, UNHIC national president, recognized respected researchers no longer here. Among them, "the historians from Las Tunas Julio Gómez, Plácido Cruz Infante, José Guillermo Montero Quesada, and Víctor Marrero Zaldívar, who contributed so much to local historical studies, and held responsibilities in the direction of the organization at different times."

The efforts of several local researchers were also praised, colleagues of yesteryear were reunited, and the commitment to continue digging into history to weave the future was breathed.
