Meeting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the creation of Popular Savings Bank

An intergenerational meeting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the creation of Popular Savings Bank (BPA by its acronym in Spanish) and National Rebellion Day took place at the Piano Bar of the Las Tunas municipality, seeking to link the new generations with those who dedicated a lifetime to the service of the population.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The day passed between games and a conversation, with the word responsibility dominating the atmosphere, the same word that several young people said was the center of the work carried out by the institution.

Psychologist Idolidia Tamayo Infante, who works as a Human Resources specialist, is almost at the point of retirement. She feels that in this job the most important thing is values. "We must be honest and have a great sense of belonging to what we do and the place where we work. I had the opportunity to train with these veterans of the sector; they showed me how, through psychology, I could select those who were going to work here."

And when he refers to "veterans" he is talking about men and women who have been in BPA's offices for more than 45 years. Many of them lived through the transition from a capitalist bank to what it is today, and they felt that change to a great extent. It is because they know what it means to work with the public that they dare to give advice.

"To retake the institution's code of ethics, that is the first thing that must be done, to train the workers in advance, bankers are very sacrificed workers and at this time we must retake that sacrifice", were the words of Enrique Ruiz Mecerene, retired bank director.

Serving the population is a complicated task, and even more so in these times when shortages absorb everyone, and going out to the streets becomes a marathon. Those inside the center who interact with staff daily also feel this tension.

"Complex customers come to the bank daily. Most of them arrive in a hurry. On our part, we have to treat them politely, use moderate language and explain to them the procedure to follow inside the facility," added Henry Rodríguez, Security and Protection agent.

These 40 years are full of knowledge. The men and women of Banco Popular de Ahorro still have a lot of work to do to learn how to provide services in today's world and how to use all this vast experience.
