The National Office for the Control of the Rational Use of Energy (ONURE, by its acronym in Spanish) has among its missions the control of all energy carriers in the province and the promotion of a saving culture.

Las Tunas, Cuba during the summer, the entity is in charge of continuing with the actions that are usually carried out to achieve a better use of these energy carriers in the state sector.

Elizabeth Rojas Bárzaga, an ONURE specialist, says that the main activity of the specialized workers is the contingency inspections carried out in all state centers, mainly in those classified as high consumers.

"Comprehensive inspections are carried out during peak daytime and night-time hours, aimed at achieving a reduction in consumption in these entities so that there are no energy losses in the residential sector, which is our greatest aspiration."

"Summer requires a lot of support from everyone, we know that there are children at home, and our actions are aimed at protecting this period of rest, as well as consolidating the culture of energy saving, which is so important in Cuba today," the specialist continued.

Working together with political and mass organizations is part of the daily work of the ONURE, as well as supporting those who work in the Las Tunas Electricity Company, to inform the people of all the measures to be applied for a more rational and efficient use of energy.

"Concerning the residential sector, we have not stood idly by, we hold neighborhood debates, we have links with the Federation of Cuban Women, and we are involved in the Pioneer Camps. One of our social objectives is to work with the new generations because it has been proven that children have a great influence on how to act responsibly concerning energy saving in each of our homes."

Being part of the group of specialists that make up the ONURE team is an arduous and misunderstood task," says Rojas Bárzaga, "which requires a lot of ethics, professionalism, and patience to reach out to entities and new economic actors to create greater awareness in terms of reducing energy consumption through better energy use.
