Las Tunas improves its road network

The Provincial Road Center of Las Tunas is working to improve the state of its network, an activity that is intensified during the months of July and August, in view of the increase in the mobility of people and with the purpose of promoting greater safety in the circulation of vehicles.

Las Tunas, Cuba - As a result of this work, only in July in the province was made alternative patching with cold asphalt in 118 kilometers, which allowed the elimination, basically, of the largest and most dangerous bumps, to ensure better traffic on the roads.

Yaquelín Domínguez Carreño, director of the Provincial Road Center, said that in Las Tunas that entity manages about 500 kilometers of roads of national interest, of which, in the summer, those that lead to the resorts were placed in first order.

"We prioritize the northern roads, that is, Las Tunas-Puerto Padre and Lora-La Llanita. With the Ministry of Construction (MICONS), we also carried out an earth movement in the curve of Punta de Tomate, which is a stretch damaged by the penetration of the sea, where, in addition, the deviation of the bridge was given a better leveling. So the roadway was in a more suitable state for vehicle traffic.

"We also worked on 1.2 kilometers of the road to Manatí, from the airport to the Protesta de Baraguá Preuniversity Institute.”

The Provincial Road Center, she added, is carrying out work this year aimed at maintaining or recovering the state of the network of national interest, an action that they are undertaking against the background of the difficulties, to which they are seeking solutions.

"Some municipalities have implemented the indication of using other alternative materials to hot asphalt and liquid asphalt for patching. This is the case of 'Colombia' and 'Jesús Menéndez', which have used a stone base or quarry waste to fill in the potholes," she said.

On the other hand, she said that on the southern ring road they are building sidewalks for pedestrians, marking the roads, and completing the paving of a path from the entrance to Camagüey to Cuatro Caminos. And from this site to the Ranchón of the roundabout, located at the exit to Holguín, they started the earthmoving with a motor grader to improve the condition of the embankment, in addition to pulling 1.10 km of asphalt macadam, on the other path.

She also stated that in this important work, the construction of the bridge over the Hórmigo River is progressing, where they have already made the substructure of the viaduct with the casting of nine foundations, the placement of the same number of columns and three head beams.
