Golden Hill has resumed operations at its mills after being shut down for over six months due to repairs and maintenance. As a result, the geo-mining plant located in Jobabo, which plays a crucial role in gold extraction and processing in Cuba, is now back in operation.
Jobabo, Las Tunas.- At an on-site ceremony, the performance of several workers who played a prominent role in the repair of the mineral processing infrastructure and other maintenance tasks was praised. Osvaldo Rivera Álvarez, Yosbel González Díaz, José Manuel Romero Pérez, Oisdel Jiménez Rodríguez, Osmani Oscar Pérez, and Ruslan Rodríguez Barbán were recognized for their commitment and effort.
Yusmiel Sánchez Silva, Camagüey Geo-Mining Company's director-general, praised the workers' dedication to carrying out these tasks "with bare hands," despite adverse conditions and limited resources. According to Sánchez Silva, the joint effort allowed the plant to return to its productive capacity.
"The sacrifice of many workers to recover the plant without investment, with their own resources, practically with the same materials and resources available here, and the ingenuity of many, have had a profound impact and demonstrate that anything is possible.”
"Now, we must maintain the pace of operations to meet our planned objectives and continue improving the plant. Just because a repair has been completed, doesn't mean it's in optimal condition. We need to continue fine-tuning some details to prevent another shutdown."
For his part, Geomel Vilas Placeres, Director of Operations at the Geominsal Group, emphasized the need to reestablish the technological culture of the productive enclave, which is vital to ensuring discipline, technical rigor, and safety standards required by a continuous production center like this.
“We must always value what we have and take care of it. Therefore, a sense of ownership in preserving this equipment is paramount today. Let's make the following revisions at the appropriate times, ensure that shift changes comply with their tasks, and operators do their jobs at each workstation. This must be done to recover and restore production conditions."
With operations back up and running, Golden Hill aims to produce approximately 55 kilograms of gold in the remainder of the year. However, there is optimism that this amount could be exceeded if the plant can recover its production rate of five or six years ago when it achieved better performance. The company prioritizes the completion of the workforce, as approximately 30 workers are needed to cover the three shifts required for continuous production. In addition, it seeks to improve the internal organization to optimize operational dynamics.
With these initial steps, Golden Hill is positioning itself again as a key player in Cuban mining, driving economic development and strengthening the foundation for future advancements through international partnerships.
