Las Tunas has much idle land to deliver in usufruct

Around 330 jobs, between the state and private sectors, have been offered in the province since the end of the previous year, when the process of monetary regulation in Cuba was announced, with the consequent changes that it brings with it, such as the variation in the prices of services, the retail trade and the regulated family basket.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Miguel González Velázquez, head of the Provincial Directorate of Labor and Social Security (DPTSS), assured 26 that Las Tunas is one of the territories with an unfavorable situation with respect to employment since the available positions are below the real expectations and needs of the working-age population.

"At the moment we have more than 800 available places," the manager said. Agriculture and the Sugar Company are the organizations that demand the most labor force. There are 63 thousand caballerías (two million 434 thousand 154 hectares) of land destined to be given in usufruct in seven municipalities, except “Jesús Menéndez,” and with the incentive of up to 20 years for exploitation.

"Since the Monetary Ordering Task began, more than 1,140 citizens interested in obtaining a job have approached the municipal Labor Directorates, but most have not accepted our proposals because they do not meet their requirements or require a qualification that these candidates do not have.”

Valentina Aguilera Puig, Deputy Director of Employment and Trained Workforce, commented that, precisely, with the incentive to promote occupations here, the DPTSS, in conjunction with the University of Las Tunas, carries out a survey in the eight municipalities to evaluate the objective needs of each locality and its potentialities.

"Our intention is to conclude this study before the month of March," Aguilera Puig said, "to present the project to the governor and that projects aimed at involving residents who are currently unemployed and eager to work can be implemented."

In 2021, they foresee that another 500 jobs will be generated in Las Tunas by way of investments belonging to the state sector. For their part, private enterprises are also emerging as an option to satisfy personal demands, especially in the current context in which there is evidence of a relaxation of the laws that concern self-employment.

For more information, and at the request of citizens, a website of the Directorate of Labor and Social Security will be set up that will make it possible to make visible the occupational offers of the territories, in such a way that the process is more transparent and interactive.
