High temperatures in as TunasA high thermal sensation – even much greater than that registered by thermometers - has been felt in recent days in the province of Las Tunas, whose residents appeal to the use of umbrellas, fans, hats, caps, and garments that alleviate the intensity of the sun rays.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The technical deputy director of the local Meteorological Center, Master of Sciences Alexey Moreno Borges, explained that the situation these days occurs for several reasons; among them, the presence in the region of weak variable winds and low relative humidity.

The specialist specified that the strong incidence of the sun and the scarce cloudiness is added, which is why the population must adopt measures to protect themselves from heat since, in Cuba, the fourth month of the year is characterized by reporting the absolute maximum temperatures.

On Monday, April 19, the two meteorological stations of the territory recorded a hot day, with the highest temperatures of the month and the current year. The maximum registered in this city was 36.5 degrees Celsius, at 3:05 pm; while in the northern municipality of Puerto Padre it was 36.9 degrees Celsius, at 1:00 pm.

The expert clarified that, although it may seem otherwise, these have not been the absolute maximum temperatures for this month here, because 38.3 degrees Celsius were reported in the provincial capital on April 10, 2020, and in Puerto Padre, on April 29, 2015, the thermometers read 38.4 degrees Celsius.

Moreno Borges said that for the remainder of the current month, the persistence of high temperatures in the territory of Las Tunas is expected, while the arrival of rainfall is not probable before May when historically the rainy period begins.

These days, the best precautions should be taken between 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon, and it is suggested to drink plenty of fluids and fresh fruits, besides the use of appropriate clothing to protect the skin from the direct impact of the King of the Sky.
