Liberación canning factory will offer new products

For the first time since its founding 37 years ago, the Liberación canned fruits and vegetable factory began processing juices in one-liter labeled plastic bottles for its sale at different points in this city.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The plant takes advantage of the current mango harvest for the new endeavor, and the definition of the cost sheet is expected to start the commercialization of the product.

The other good news from the factory is that today the mango jam began to be sold at 18.00 pesos per kilogram, 13.00 pesos less than the previous price, a decision that responds to what was proposed in the Ordering Task: rectifying as this process advances, Osmany Cortés Hernández, administrator of the unit, stressed to the Cuban News Agency.

Cortés Hernández acknowledged that the processed products run the risk of having less quality since, this year, the Collection Company delivers the mango in bulk and not in boxes - with a level of selection as in previous calendars-, also causing some delay in the process.

Since Liberación began to exploit the mango harvest, it has manufactured 28 tons of jam. In previous months, they elaborated papaya sweets, tomato puree, and pickles, like in previous years.

The administrator explained that the plant has the potential to process five tons every eight hours; but the innovators of the center are working on the recovery of a fifth boiler, an effort that will contribute to expanding its capacity.

"We have a completely obsolete technology, but the equipment is very noble because the breakages are solved just in some three hours," he explained.

In perspective, there are two projects underway, one local and the other related to foreign investment. If realized, it would increase the processing capacity to 15 tons every eight hours; besides any new equipment that may be installed to improve quality and diversification.
