Las Tunas Branch of the National Insurance Company (ESEN)

Insurance in the agricultural sector focuses the attention of the Las Tunas Branch of the National Insurance Company (ESEN), considering that it would be the most promising option for growth.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In 2021, the sale of this type of insurance to local farmers grew significantly here, especially those linked to investment and performance, after its inclusion among the 63 production incentive measures for the sector. However, there is still little sensitivity and ability of producers to clearly define their costs and, therefore, the insurance to be contracted in the future. This was analyzed by directors and specialists of the ESEN when reviewing its performance during the past year.

The preventive part of the insurance cannot be lost and never become a factor that discourages production, warned Draisi Ramírez Blanco, general director of the Company. "We have to accompany the producers in the risk analysis, in the follow-up visits to the evolution of their crops," she said.

Particular attention, she suggested, should be paid by both the agents and the rest of the experts, to the decrease in technological packages, mainly for grains and vegetables, something that could affect their yields and, in turn, the amount of the insurance to be contracted. In compensation, she reported, a new category has just been opened for pasture and forage crops, which will be accessible to ranchers who produce food for the animals they raise.

The venues in the municipalities of Puerto Padre and Jesús Menéndez were the best of the ESEN in Las Tunas during 2021; an entity that ended with positive numbers in revenues and sales, although the discussion of its annual performance showed that it can continue to take advantage of more opportunities.
