Las Tunas expects increasing productions for exports

With more than twenty projects approved in its portfolio of opportunities, the Department of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment in Las Tunas seeks a successful identification of the products that are in promotion, development, and consolidation for the international market.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment provided several training actions during the first months of the year to prepare the entrepreneurs of the territory that already produces for this purpose, and other entities proposed to become export poles.

According to the Citizen Portal of the local government, Las Tunas has 22 projects approved in the portfolio of opportunities for foreign investment; of these, the greatest representativeness is in food production, although the sugar industry, construction, mining, tourism, and renewable energy are also reflected.

Among the main results is that undertaken by TecnoAzúcar, an entity that managed to heighten the quality of the rums produced in the southern municipality of 2Amancio" until reaching a prize with the “Conde de Cuba.”

The Stainless-steel Company (ACINOX Las Tunas), even with less production than planned, during 2021, executed sales in the international market for more than 250 million dollars.

Besides, a special significance has beekeeping, with more than 500 tons of top-quality honey. This production allowed to establish a record and consider a challenge - in short term - obtaining 750 tons, with the use of 15 thousand hives and the introduction of better genetic characteristics in the queen bees.

However, it is urgent to strengthen the preparation of producers based on the current context in which exports are developed in the country since it is necessary to seek the opening of new markets while consolidating the existing ones.

The Department of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment is committed to directing productive efforts towards increasingly dynamic goods, and thus achieving good quality management; since the province maintains 28 exportable items.

The leading assortments are carbon steel billets, fishing productions, charcoal, port services, and raw sugar, regardless of the 2021-2022 harvest was very poor.

The evaluations and training carried out in this territory indicate that it is possible to advance in others such as tobacco, sugar by-products, and those associated with academic and audit services, for which 14 companies have been identified with the capacity to replace imports with about 26 products.
