The Biological and Pharmaceutical Laboratories Business Group (LABIOFAM) commercializes DesinCLOR at its points of sale; a product developed by the Drug Research and Development Center (CIDEM, by its Spanish acronym) and evaluated as an effective and long-lasting method for disinfecting and treating water.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Lisbeth Almaguer Batista, director of the Commercial LABIOFAM branch in this eastern province, explained that they received from CIDEM about five thousand bottles, with 450 tablets each, which are sold for the price of 112.45 pesos.
“The distribution began in some points of this city of Las Tunas and will gradually be extended to the other units, including the municipalities. Until now, it is not expected to be sold in Puerto Padre, where we do not have sale points.
“DesinCLOR comes in effervescent tablets that improve the quality of drinking water that do not change the smell, taste, or transparency of the liquid. It can also be used for the disinfection of fruits, vegetables, and eggs, and also for the cleaning of utensils, equipment, and surfaces.
“A tablet is used for a liter of water if it is supplied by the aqueduct system. In case the water is from a dam or a river, it is recommended to filter it and use two tablets; then let it rest in a tightly covered container for 30 minutes before ingestion.”
DesinCLOR is an ideal product for water purification and has a similar effect to sodium hypochlorite. Its difference lies in the durability of the improved liquid and in the product, which maintains its properties for a longer period.
It has health records at the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Microbiology and has been marketed for two years in Havana and other Cuban provinces, where no adverse effects have been reported due to its systematic use.
It is a safe product that does not require special conditions for its conservation and experts recommend drinking plenty of water or milk, in case of accidental ingestion, to quickly overcome the weak stomach disorders that it could cause.
