The 2024-2025 school year has begun.

This Monday, September 2, the 2024-2025 school year begins throughout Cuba and, in Las Tunas, educational centers have made sure they are in a position to receive students and offer an education that will help them grow intellectually and spiritually.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Efforts have focused on two crucial areas: the completion of the teaching coverage, and the repair and maintenance of educational facilities. Concerning the first aspect, the projected staff of teachers in the classrooms amounts to 13,052 and is 95 percent covered.

During her last visit to Las Tunas, the Minister of Education Naima Trujillo Barret urged to innovate, make procedures more flexible, and find solutions based on the implementation of the new provisions for payment for teaching load and seniority. Each step is guided by two fundamental principles: seeking the highest possible quality in training and not allowing anything ethically reprehensible.

In addition to utilizing the updated ministerial regulations that enhance salaries, various strategies are implemented. These include hiring on an hourly basis, involving university students through the Educating for Love Task, and rehiring retirees and previously dismissed staff.

In terms of construction, significant work has been completed in several schools. Priorities included installing waterproofing materials, improving the bathrooms and water and sewer systems, and masonry and carpentry work. The aim is to create an environment conducive to learning and the full development of the students.

Another relevant aspect is the attention to children and young people in vulnerable situations. Collaboration between the educational sector and other social organizations has allowed prevention groups to be established at the Popular Council level, with positive results in dealing with problems such as criminal behavior, drug use, and teenage pregnancy.

Textbooks have been updated for several grades. The 667 General Education centers expect to receive an enrollment of around 79 thousand students, some 800 more than the last school year. Among the teaching levels that most influence the increase is Early Childhood, in the modality of Children's Houses, due to the opening of two in the municipality of Amancio and the provincial capital.

Also noteworthy is the availability of the study material base in terms of textbooks; this year work has been done on updating some for several grades.

This September 2nd is another day of color and hope. Friends in the classroom are full of hugs and vacation stories. Some wear a new uniform, and some wonder if they will survive the coming months. There are also photos and excited parents and the certainty that this society has to defend the quality of education at all costs.

Although the economic situation that the country is experiencing is evident, and more than one resource may be missing, educational authorities ensure that efforts continue to improve this situation and ensure that the new academic course not only meets the required standards but also offers superior results in all aspects.
