botThat morning Teresa woke up before dawn. The expectation to experience the traditions of her parents was so great that she began to walk her charming seaport in the dark, while she was overcoming her nine decades of life in such act.

At first, that August 24th seemed ordinary, from the smells of salt water with rust, to the community inertia of Saturday. She decided to approach the old Playita with the intention of contemplating the rising tide. There, she lost herself thoughtfully, returning to herself, with the noises of the cargo trucks, the sound of the pipes when placing the tents and the hustle and bustle of the port families.

The Sea Festival was prepared and from that moment, the old woman visited each cultural scene: the park where an exhibition of food made with fish and seafood was held, the post office entry with a sample of fishing tools.

Besides, the surroundings of the platform that was used to observe the children when they were playing in La Playita and the maneuvers of the marine floats, full of girls and young people in full dispute to reach the title of Queen of the Sea.

mar festival teresaDespite the festive atmosphere, Teresa went home in the early hours of the afternoon. She could not fully enjoy the clowns that animated part of the morning, nor the central show in which the troubadour Gaspar Esquivel, the soloist Marelis Escobar, the duo Los Indomables and the Impacto group performed.

However, there were always those who came to her house to give her the artistic details. In the distance, she continued listening to the rhythms fused with the coastal breeze, until the sound mark of the waves remained on the coast.

The next day, Teresa Ramos, Teresita for her acquaintances, was again the first to wake up. She walked to her usual place on the beach for receiving the caresses of the sea, with her eyes closed; she meditated on family and life.

Every Sea Festival is a space of longing for the fishing arts, culinary culture and water games inherited from her parents, and at the same time, another August of traditions that, paradoxically, makes her rejuvenate.
