With new spaces, the participation of prominent writers, 301 titles, and more than 28,600 copies, the Book and Literature Fair begins. It runs from today through Sunday. It is dedicated to writers Maritza Batista and Ernesto Carralero Bosch, in addition to celebrating the 95th anniversary of Pablo Armando Fernández's birth, and embracing national themes.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The event will maintain Maceo Park as its regular venue, and the Fulgencio Oroz Athenaeum bookstore will continue to be instrumental in sales. Traditional spaces such as Flores del alma (Flowers of the Soul), Tesoro de papel (Paper Treasure), Pensamiento literario (Literary Thought), and Ciudad virtual (Virtual City) will also remain. Others, such as Magos, brujos y hechiceros (Magicians, Witches, and Wizards) will be launched at the José Martí Provincial Library, looking at science fiction and fantasy literature, which teenagers and young adults highly value. Several institutions will also bring the magic of literature to different areas.
Likewise, the event joins the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Territorial Publishing System and thus revisits various titles that -in some way- have marked the history of the Sanlope publishing house, such as Madame la Gorda by María Liliana Celorrio, Juego de Palabras by Mirtha Beatón, and El Mundo de Pablo by Saimy K. Torres.
Another highlight will be the performance, today and tomorrow afternoons, by the Teatro Tuyo troupe at the Tunas Theater, as part of the conception of the Tesoro de papel (Paper Treasure), designed for children, which will run in the mornings at Maceo Park.
Authors such as Dr. Félix Julio Alfonso, renowned panelist of the Escriba y lea TV program; Jorge García Prieto (Poe Cid); and Ronel González, Cucalambé Award winner (written décima), among others, will also be honored at the event. More than 15 new literary releases will be shared during these days, in print or digital formats, including Cuestión de origen (A Question of Origin) by Lester Fernández Ballester, Operettas de Orfeo (Orpheus Operettas) by Aleido Rodríguez, Monela by Alejandro Rama, Figuras en Cruz ( Cross Figures) by Raúl Leyva Pupo, Nanas para despertar a una Muñeca (Lullabies to Awaken a Doll) by Mirtha Costa, and Travesía de sueños (Travel of Dreams) by Yunisleidys Castillo.
In addition to readings, book presentations, poetry recitals, theoretical sessions, exhibitions, and other initiatives, important competitions will also feature awards, such as the Antonio Borrego (sonnet), The Little Prince (children's literature), and The Double Flame (erotic novel) contests.
