Las Tunas and Industriales will fight for the crown in Cuban baseball

Five years after completing a spectacular comeback, crowned with a sudden knockout in game seven, the Las Tunas Lumberjacks will once again face the multi-champion Industriales, this time in the final of the 62nd National Baseball Series.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Blue Lions have just defeated the Wasps from Santiago de Cuba 3-1 in the seventh game of the second semifinal of this postseason, after last Sunday the team from Las Tunas got rid of the Crocodiles from Matanzas in six matches.

The dispute for the title will begin on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the Julio Antonio Mella Park, in this city, home of the leading squad of the tournament's qualifying phase.

In their only matchup in postseasons, Las Tunas prevailed 4-3 in the semifinal of the 57th National Series, on their route to their first final and the runner-up place.

On that occasion, the Lumberjacks took the first game at home 9-7 but the Lions countered with a 12-5 victory.

With the series tied, those from the country's capital took advantage in game three by winning 4-0 the night the star Carlos Tabares said goodbye to active sports. A day later, Las Tunas won 6-3 but -in the fifth game- Industriales went ahead again with a 4-2 score.

The match then traveled back to the Balcón de Oriente (Cuban Eastern Balcony) and the team led at that time by Pablo Alberto Civil was able to make the manly deed against Víctor Mesa's squad.

In the dramatic sixth game, the home team came from behind and won 6-3; while a day later they went over their top rivals with a 10-0 knockout.

A year later, Las Tunas won its only national crown after defeating Villa Clara in the final. Starting this Saturday, those in green and red will show that scroll before the blue machinery, the most successful team in the country with its 12 championships.
