Para-athlete Ever René Castro.

Fate would have it that on his birthday, Ever René Castro Martínez became the first para-athlete from Las Tunas to participate in a competition under the five rings, after taking fifth place in the javelin throwing, category F-41, in Paris 2024, with a throw of 34.34 meters (m).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In a competition that demanded an additional effort, the native from Puerto Padre fell below his usual records. Contrary to what has characterized Castro Martínez, the sequence of throws showed a descending order because after opening the competition with his highest, he fell to 32.42 m on his second attempt. He managed some recovery on the third when he made the implement travel to 32.88 m; but on the fourth and fifth, he could barely get around 30 meters. His final throw was 32.29 m, which meant no change in the standings.

The medal race was a three-way affair from the start but the final draw was a surprise in an event full of excitement. With what could have been a Paralympic record of 47.64m, Sadegh Beit Sayah's fifth throw took him to the top; however, a violation of the international rules during the celebration led to his disqualification.

India's Navdeep Navdeep (47.32 m), who had led for much of the competition, was awarded gold, while the silver medal went to China's Pengxiang Sun (44.72 m), who ceded his status as leader of the world ranking. The third step of the podium was occupied by Iraq's Wildan Nukhailawi (40.46 m). Kah Michel Ye, representing Ivory Coast, took the opportunity to set a new benchmark for the African continent, with a throw of 37.69 m.
