The first secretary of the PCC in Las Tunas talks to baseball star Dánel Castro Muñagorry

The resuming of the school year and the preparation of the baseball team for the 60th Cuban National Series is among the priorities of the sports movement in this eastern Cuban province, s it was learned during an exchange between the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party here, Manuel René Pérez Gallego, and managers of the sector and, especially, wit the athletes of the preselection of the Leñadores (Lumberjacks) for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- From the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium, Pérez Gallego reviewed the fundamental investments of the sport in the Cuban Eastern Balcony: the Provincial Center of Sports Medicine, the Carlos Leyva sports initiation school (EIDE), as well as the drainage system and the 58 Series Champions clubhouse, both in the “Mella.”

Representatives of the construction companies and the Provincial Directorate of Sports explained that the Sports Medicine building is waiting for the waterproofing of its roof, while the greatest delays are seen in the works for the solution to the drainage of the main baseball park of the territory and in the objects planned in the "Carlos Leyva” school.

In this regard, Pérez Gallego urged that the minimum conditions be created with the required speed so that the EIDE is ready as soon as possible for the resumption of school activities. It is vital, he said, the support of the agencies, because the situation is complex there.

Accompanied by Yelenis Tornés, provincial vice governor, the partisan leader also became aware of the work carried out by workers of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets in the Lumberjacks' clubhouse, for which, they explained, the necessary materials are available.

However, an optimal work rhythm will be required for it to be concluded on September 12, as the Sports authorities aspire here. In the next few days, they informed, the metal chairs that will be placed in the low platforms of the third base tiers should arrive in the province.

The same cannot be said of the actions planned to solve the historic drainage problem of the baseball stadium in Las Tunas, because except for the high-density polypropylene pipes, the rest of the required resources are not yet available.

Later, Pérez Gallego spoke with the coaching staff and the athletes who make up the Lumberjacks preselection for the 60th Series. "Commitment and total dedication in training must prevail," he commented, referring to the preparation of the green-red team, once again under the command of Pablo Civil. The manager praised the support they have received so far from the organizations involved in guaranteeing what is necessary for the training that is now in its second week. The group of players, he assured, has adapted very well to the designed work system.
