Las Tunas Baseball Team Confirms Positive Case for COVID-19

Authorities of the Sports Directorate in Las Tunas confirmed today the positive result of a player of the Las Tunas baseball team for COVID-19 after the PCR tests carried out on all its members last Monday.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The athlete was referred on Wednesday to the José Martí comprehensive training school, which is the center authorized by the health authorities, for SARS-CoV-2 positive patients who do not show symptoms of the disease.

The rest of the players is still under an epidemiological study and will be transferred from the Las Tunas Hotel, where they have remained since their return from Cienfuegos, to the Cerro de Caisimú camping site, in the municipality of Manatí, that has functioned as an isolation center for suspects in recent months.

Dr. Blas Hernández, in charge of attending the team from Las Tunas, told 26 that the protocols established for these cases are followed, so that next Saturday (the fifth day since the previous samples were taken) the PCR tests should be repeated on all the members of the group.

The Lumberjacks were immersed in the postseason of the 60th National Baseball Series and had yielded in the first game of the playoff to Santiago de Cuba, when the confirmation of a positive case in the Wasps forced the match to be stopped.

In the last hours, several sources have reported new positive diagnoses between players and the coaching staff of the Santiago squad, so the resumption of the quarter-final series is increasingly compromised.
