The capture of firearms in confronting gangs in El Salvador is highlighted by the authorities on Tuesday.

San Salvador.- The National Civil Police (PNC) seized two assault rifles after the arrest of several alleged gang members in Santa Rita, San Rafael, and El Paraíso municipalities, department of Chalatenango, the authorities reported.

According to the prosecutor in the case, these individuals are involved in aggravated homicides and vehicle theft committed between 2018 and 2020.

As for Tuesday’s reports, 57,400 gang members and alleged collaborators have been arrested so far.

According to estimates, October ended with 20 days with zero homicides, making it the third safest month in the history of El Salvador.

This downward trend is expected to continue in November when the state of exception is possible to be extended, a measure that underlies the official policy against gangs. (PL)
