There is a climate emergency of disastrous effects on the entire planet.

President Sergio Mattarella and five other European heads of State signed an appeal on Thursday to support the commitment to face the climate crisis that affects the world.

Rome.- A note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic this Thursday points out that, according to that appeal, the problem has already reached “explosive dimensions,” and there is a “climate emergency” due to the disastrous effects of the same on the entire planet, including the Mediterranean region.

Presidents Zoran Milanovic (Croatia), Katerina Sakellaropoulou (Greece), George Vella (Malta), Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (Portugal), and Natasa Pirc Musar (Slovenia), members of the Arraiolos Group, also known as “United for Europe” Group, signed the document.

The document points out that by late July, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the current crisis as a state of “global boiling,” and its effects “are visible in our region, the Mediterranean.”

This region has been “severely affected and at immediate risk, not only from water and electricity shortages, but also floods, widespread heat waves, forest fires, and desertification. (PL)
