Isolation center in Las Tunas

The return to their usual work of almost twenty premises that functioned as isolation centers in the province of Las Tunas during the confrontation with the new coronavirus is among the successes of this territory in the post-COVID-19 recovery stage.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Yamilé Hechavarría Fonseca, a specialist in Epidemiology of the Provincial Management Post, who monitors the disease here, told the Cuban News Agency that Las Tunas had a total of 19 centers dedicated to caring for people (suspects, contacts, travelers) at different levels of care.

The premises used for isolation belong to the Directorate of Education at its various levels of education, the Accommodation Company, Tourism and the Health sector itself, she pointed out.

In addition, the Las Tunas Hotel was chosen for compliance with the mandatory isolation of Health personnel who worked on the front line against SARS-CoV-2, causing the COVID-19 disease.

Located in the municipalities of Puerto Padre, Jesús Menéndez, Majibacoa, Manatí and Las Tunas, in correspondence with the location of the 17 positive cases for COVID-19 in the province, in these centers of isolation was complimented the work of Health personnel with the support of the establishments themselves and the decisive contribution of Education and mass organizations.

Established as the second province with the lowest incidence rate in the country, Las Tunas gradually closed these premises until only three centers were opened for admission: Los Laureles, in Majibacoa, for suspects; the José Martí pioneer palace, in Las Tunas, for contacts; and the Club Familiar motel for travelers, with 100 capacities.

As part of the actions being carried out in the territory during the post-COVID-19 recovery, the organisms involved contemplated within their strategies the disinfection and conditioning of these spaces back to their usual activities. In this sense, the Cerro de Caisimú camping stands out, which was working as a center for travelers and therefore could not reopen its doors to national tourism at the same time as the other facilities of its kind.
