Dr. Viviana Gutiérrez Rodríguez, director of Health in Las Tunas

Public Health in the province is moving towards the new normality, after leading an intense fight against the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which allowed the territory to remain among those with the lowest incidence in the nation.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Viviana Gutiérrez Rodríguez, provincial director of Health, explained that here they will keep a strict vigilance in the communities through inquiries to identify patients with acute respiratory infections (ARI). Control will also continue to travelers from other countries.

For the admission of possible patients - she specified - isolation centers will continue to operate. In Los Laureles, located in the municipality of Majibacoa, they will assist the suspects, and in the José Martí school, their contacts. For the attention to travelers there is the Club Familiar, with 100 capacities, of which seven are covered today.

"Those who come to the province from Havana or Matanzas, authorized for family and other problems, will remain under surveillance by Primary Health Care staff for 14 days. Quick tests are applied to determine if they are infected or not, because they come from two areas with a high incidence rate, although everything points to control."

She said that the population study continues in the municipalities of Las Tunas and Manatí to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in apparently healthy people. In its first stage, the real-time PCR was carried out on 45 families, and from there, an older woman from Manatí tested positive. In its second stage, the blood sample was taken to identify the presence of antibodies to the new coronavirus through the Ultra Micro Analytical System, known as the SUMA test.

Gutiérrez highlighted that Health in the territory returns to 50 percent of its activities in Primary and Secondary Care, which in recent months have been in low coverage and others have been paralyzed. She exemplified that both Rehabilitation and Stomatology restart their services. She said they will select the people who need to rehabilitate more urgently.

Emergencies in the polyclinics and hospitals, enabled for the specific attention of cases with IRA, will be maintained with all biosecurity measures. They are differentiated consultations so that these cases do not coincide in the same scenario with patients suffering from other conditions.

She emphasized that the surgical activity gradually resumes, mainly ophthalmology and digestive pathologies. In addition, she commented that the waiting list for the start of the first operations is in place.

On the other hand, the limitation of visits to nursing homes, psycho-pedagogical centers and hospitals will continue. In other phases, they will authorize visits on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. The grandparents' daycare houses have not yet reopened and this population group will be cared for in their residences, she clarified.

"We will locate doctors, nurses and graduates of the State Sanitary Inspection in hotels and camping sites for the protection of the personnel who go to those tourist centers."

Gutiérrez meant that Public Health is certifying the labor institutions that provide service to people to avoid sanitary-hygienic violations.
