Vice-minister of education visited Las Tunas

A call to not lose the perception of risk, to control hygiene in the institutions, and to bet on the quality of education made in this province a work team of the Ministry of Education, headed by the vice-minister Eugenio González Pérez.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The actions to ensure the indications of the first phase post-COVID-19 stage were checked in an exchange with the main officials of that sector in the territory.

González Pérez said that "Las Tunas has been championed in making the right decisions to contain the spread of the COVID-19, which allowed the control of the disease." He confirmed the strategy in order to organize the conclusion of the 2019-2020 academic year; as well as enlist the next school period, taking into account fundamental aspects such as hygienic-sanitary measures, the improvement of ideological-political work, saving resources, the production of food and educational work.

In the presence of leaders of the Cuban Communist Party and the union movement, Nílser Piñeda Cruz, provincial director of Education, explained that they work to guarantee the successful transit through each of the three planned stages. He argued that due to the new scenario, the 642 schools in Las Tunas should extreme actions to guarantee the recommended physical distance and he abounded in the intense work they carry out in order to avoid overcrowding and certify with Public Health all the schools with a view to the resumption of the school calendar.

Piñeda Cruz reported on the preparation of principals and teachers in schools from the adjustment of study programs and developments in the evaluation system. He also announced that about 1,500 infants are already attending childcare centers these days and that the semi-boarding schools will receive in this first phase the children of working mothers who require their services.

Several municipal directors and heads of educational levels explained some of their peculiarities and ensured that they had the necessary resources to comply with the methodological guidelines and the hygienic-sanitary indications. Regarding the latter, Eugenio González insisted that schools constitute one of the spaces that generate the greatest personal interaction and the appearance of epidemic outbreaks should be avoided.

Among other topics, he learned about the behavior of teaching coverage, the projections of the territory for entering pedagogical careers and the possibility of promoting access to other vital specialties through the University College. In this regard, he emphasized that Primary Education must continue to bet on having two teachers per classroom and the Basic Secondary School so that all of its guide teachers only teach classes in their groups.

The vice-minister advocated for better use of the potential of the Technical and Professional Education in the elaboration of various materials, given the complex economic situation that the country is going through. He also made reference to the need to take advantage of each allotment and plot of land in the institutions that have them, in order to support food production.

He urged updating the pedagogical diagnoses and giving differentiated follow-up to students with academic difficulties, as well as to families who were isolated at some moment. He also guided to guarantee the continuity of studies, to support all the processes of student organizations and to study the theoretical bases of improvement, in order to continue raising quality.
