COVID-19 in Las Tunas

Without new COVID-19 positive cases today, the province maintains its epidemiological situation stable with an incidence rate of 2.8 per 100,000 inhabitants, among the lowest in the country.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- To date, a total of 15 confirmed patients have been reported, seven from Puerto Padre, five from Las Tunas, two from "Jesús Menéndez" and one from Majibacoa.

46 percent of those infected with the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus are younger than 40 years, and 33 percent, older than 60. Sex does not have significant differences since eight belong to the feminine and seven to the masculine. The only deceased was over six decades old.

Dr. Viviana Gutiérrez Rodríguez, director of Public Health here, reported on local Radio that 53 percent of those positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic; a characteristic that complicates the panorama and constitutes a risk. However, around them, precise investigations have been carried out that give a high margin of safety.

She explained that focus control allows the detection of positive contacts in a very timely manner and prevent the spread of the disease in the healthy population. "For every confirmed person, there are approximately 30 contacts that have been studied on the fifth day of isolation," she pointed out.

Dr. Gutiérrez also said that these controls are in charge of the Primary Health Care, which is why the management positions were designed at the level of each constituency. the actions of the doctor's and family visits are guided to obtain an effective epidemiological survey, capable of encompassing all the people who interacted with the confirmed patient.

She also explained that the isolation centers have enough beds for assistance. Those with other conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus) are admitted to set up premises for this purpose in hospital centers.

Yesterday, 92 real-time PCR results were received; all negative; for a total of 1,771. Nine rapid diagnostic tests were also performed for a cumulative of 3,130.
They inquired a total of 193,920 people during the day, which allowed the detection of 39 with respiratory symptoms and one of them was referred for admission.
