Las Tunas' first COVID-19 positive patient

For those who reside in this eastern province, the good news transcends today: Iliana Pérez, who in previous days was positive for COVID-19, has been discharged.

In accordance with the protocols, the patient will remain for a period of 14 days under surveillance at her home, located in Guayacán, “Jesús Menéndez” municipality. From there, the Primary Health Care staff will be responsible for the continuous monitoring of her condition and after that period they will repeat the PCR in order to give a definitive discharge.

Her husband, the Italian citizen, and her source of contagion, was also discharged. In his case, it is worth clarifying that although he was detected by local health personnel, the Statistical System of the Ministry of Health registered him in the province of Holguín; considering that his nasopharyngeal exudate sample was taken there, where he also received the treatment.

Las Tunas today displays figures that indicate a favorable situation in the confrontation with COVID-19. Up to the last part, eight people are admitted to the isolation centers for suspects; three of them in the Family Club, two in Aguada de Vázquez, and three in the Guillermo Domínguez hospital. Three others are in the Lenin campus of the University, intended for contacts of possible patients.

COVID-19 in Las Tunas

On this day, 64 travelers from abroad are isolated in the facilities set up for such purposes and there is no longer any compatriot under control in the communities.

To study the disease, nine samples were sent to the Santiago de Cuba laboratory, which accumulated 307. The number of fast kit testing increased to 1,446.

On the other hand, inquiries continue to detect patients with acute respiratory infections. Yesterday, the staff ready for the work reached up to 445,162 people in the different areas, and 690 medical services were registered for that cause.

Dr. Jesús Manuel León Silva, head of the Health Command Post in face of COVID-19, told 26Digital that despite these results we cannot "neglect and must maintain the hygiene and social distancing measures." He also insisted on not hiding the symptoms and going immediately to receive medical assistance.
