Detachments of Popular Support against COVID-19

Detachments of popular support were established this week in all the municipalities of Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The initiative has around 375 members in the province, who are inserted in the essential prevention dynamics in defense areas to contain the advance of COVID-19.

Wílliam Ramírez Pérez, head of the Ideological Political Work Group of the Communist Party of Cuba in the Provincial Defense Council, explained to 26Digital that the number of people from Las Tunas that is part of detachments will increase as each territory requires it, always from the voluntariness of the locals.

They are of diverse composition, which groups students, workers, housewives, grassroots leaders and political cadres. All are already active in communities.

“The most difficult thing we have today is the organization of the population in the municipal urban towns. This detachment participates actively in the stores, the markets and other spaces where there is an agglomeration of people. The intention is that they become active in their neighborhoods regarding discipline in the face of the most important measures that the country has oriented to face this health situation; both explaining the vitality of using the protective mask, and helping the most vulnerable in certain circumstances.”

Ramírez Pérez also reported that great importance is given in the province to information, especially that which transcends through the local media and official channels. In this sense, the Provincial Defense Council has established specific points in which the signal of local radio stations is amplified; six already operate in this city, through which Radio Victoria goes out into the ether.
