The province of Las Tunas reported today a positive case for SARS-CoV-2 from the municipality of Majibacoa, which is the contact of a previously confirmed patient, belonging to the surveillance focus of the Manuel (Piti) Fajardo polyclinic, in this city.
And, although that does not mean that a focus is opened around, it is essential to take extreme biosecurity measures. Something that, of course, continues to be vital throughout the territory, because in the last 15 days the province has had 40 cases, of which 35 are autochthonous; evidence that in the new normal we are not far from the real impact of the pandemic.
According to the health authorities, 15 positives remain active in Las Tunas; of them, four are hospitalized in the province of Holguín; and 11 – asymptomatic -, in the isolation center that operates at the José Martí School. Likewise, 25 people remain isolated, 16 of them are in Los Cocos; four, in the Family Club; two, in the Ferroviario Hotel; and three, in the Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital.
A total of 17 outbreaks are under epidemiological surveillance; 11 in the main municipality, four in Puerto Padre, and two in “Jesús Menéndez.” The most complex of them are still open in the health areas of the Romárico Oro and Gustavo Aldereguía polyclinics, in Puerto Padre and as Tunas, which have already generated nine and six autochthonous cases, respectively.
Likewise, a new focus was determined in the municipality of “Jesús Menéndez,” related to the case of the patient from that municipality reported yesterday; whose source of infection is a traveler from Moa, in Holguín.
Since the pandemic began in March 2020, 243 positive for COVID-19, 118 indigenous and 125 imported have been diagnosed here. And, to date, 119 patients have been clinically discharged and 109 have had the epidemiological discharge.
In Las Tunas, 24 thousand 82 PCR have been carried out, of which 617 are pending results. It is worth noting that, of the latter figure, 35 samples were taken more than 72 hours ago and 582, less than that time.
