Two brigades of health professionals from the province of Las Tunas provide their support in Havana and Holguín in order to contribute to the confrontation with the new coronavirus, amid the most complex epidemiological scenario that the country has presented since the battle against the illness began.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The aid responds to the difficult epidemic situation facing the capital, and the need to support medical assistance for those who test positive for COVID-19 from Las Tunas and are transferred for clinical admission in the neighboring province of Holguín.

Mirna Velázquez Cruz, head of the Nursing Service of the Provincial Health Directorate, informed the Cuban News Agency that in Havana there is a group of 20 professionals from different municipalities, 14 doctors and six with a degree in Nursing; and in the case of Holguín, the change of that health troop occurs every 15 days.

Velázquez Cruz also added that there is a brigade ready to leave for Santiago de Cuba in case it is necessary and the health situation requires it; as well as the constant preparation of those who remain in the Las Tunas Health institutions or are move to isolation centers enabled for the entry of travelers, suspected patients or contacts.

Through social media, there are many expressions of affection, respect and gratitude towards the "brave" people of Las Tunas who, moving away from their families, take the step forward to leave the name of Cuban health very high, as they have made more than thirty brigades in different countries of the world.

Some of those who are currently collaborating in Havana and Holguín -she pointed out- are part of the Henry Reeve contingent and have already returned from fulfilling their mission in Mexico, Italy, Andorra, and other nations, hence the experience in confronting the illness and their willingness to do duty where needed.

Las Tunas' help to other Cuban provinces in the midst of COVID-19 began in August 2020 with a first group that also went to Havana, but there are already hundreds of members of “the army in white coats” who have supported the fight against the pandemic in 19 nations.

Although this eastern Cuban province reported eight positive cases for COVID-19 today (six indigenous and two imported), in a day in which the country confirmed 893, Las Tunas remains in the new normality; however, the health and government authorities have implemented important measures in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
