Summer workshops are among the cultural initiatives during the summer

With the arrival of summer, several cultural institutions implement initiatives to attract the public to their facilities, in unison, contribute to healthy recreation, and increase their overall culture. Among the invitations, the summer workshops hosted by centers such as the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), Las Tunas' branch of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation (FNG), and the José Martí provincial library stand out, especially.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Casa del Joven Creador, for example, holds four workshops that embrace music, dance, and visual arts. The drawing workshop, in particular, under the direction of Luis Antonio González Rodríguez and Lisbet Avilés, provides new generations with tools for the pictorial world, allowing children to let their dreams and imagination fly on cardboard and other materials.

All of these are open to the general public. In addition, there is another one on dance, taught by Edguar Santos Álvarez, professor at the El Cucalambé Professional School of Art (EPA), specifically for students of that school.

According to journalist Sheyla Arteaga, communicator of the youth artistic vanguard in these premises, they also intend to resume the community project Diástole, which reaches several communities and -in addition- cultural ties are strengthened between local creators and colleagues from Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba.

The idea is that inspirational people from Las Tunas are also inserted in artistic actions that are developed in the Heroic City.

Meanwhile, according to Yuslenis Molina, a specialist in Programming at the Provincial Center of Books and Literature (CPLL), several readings and book presentations are scheduled for the summer months. "The Enrique Casals tobacco shop is one of the chosen venues.
We also want to take initiatives to the Provincial Directorate of Commerce, Copextel, Acinox, the provincial radio station Radio Victoria and other entities. Writers such as Marina Lourdes Poetry recitat are also among the summer offertsJacobo, Argel Fernández, Armando López Carralero, Carlos Esquivel, and Adriano Galeano, among others, participate in those appointments, where -in addition to fiction literature- they share volumes on Cuban History and other topics.

"Likewise, although during the summer there are no more popular events such as the Thursday Book Festival, there are others such as El tercer deseo, which will take place every third Tuesday in front of Maceo Park, and Los pasos en la Hierba, every fourth Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), with many guests."

"There will also be readings at Radio Victoria by Lester Fernández Ballester and at the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Sonnet House in Omaja, Majibacoa, by Adalberto Hechavarría and Teresa Fonseca. And the workshop on narrative techniques in Science Fiction and Fantasy, to be given by Abel Guelmes Roblejo, continues from July 10 to 14 and  August 14 to 18," Molina said.

The José Martí provincial library promotes poetry recitals every Thursday during the summer months, as well as puppet workshops taught by actress Verónica Hinojosa, on July 18 and August 1 and 15. Other institutions also maintain a relevant summer program, as is the case of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation (FNG) with its project Abre La Muralla (Open the Wall), which in turn includes various initiatives.
