People's satisfaction depends largely on the professionalism and, above all, the sensitivity to the pain of the patient

Raising the professional preparation, maintaining the fulfillment of the medical protocols and responding to the current demands with efficacy and quality of the services is today a premise of the Health workers in this province. This was ratified during the annual meeting of outcomes analysis of the sector.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- With the participation of Manuel Pérez Gallego, the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in the territory, and Jaime Chiang Vega, governor of Las Tunas, those present discussed the report that shows the achievements and also the deficiencies in a scenario marked by economic limitations.

It is well known that the U.S. blockade prevents the acquisition of inputs, diagnostic tools, medicines and other resources. However, the satisfaction of the people depends largely on the planning and organization of each process, professionalism and, above all, sensitivity to the pain of the patient and his or her family.

For this purpose, the Primary Health Care system is working and, although progress is visible in several of the indicators, actions must be strengthened in order to solve more than 70 percent of the population's health needs.

Maternal and child care remains one of the main priorities. Osmara López Borrero, head of this program here, recalled that until mid-November last year, the province maintained an infant mortality rate of 3.7 per thousand newborns, which could not be sustained and the year ended with 4.7. She also said that for 22 months no maternal deaths were reported.

Today, the main challenges of the program are in the prior preparation of couples who wish to conceive a child to avoid complications such as low birth weight and congenital malformations. Borrero insists on the need to work with adolescents since pregnancy at this stage is a health problem in this province.

The surgical activity behaved favorably despite the lack of resources. No less important was the assistance to the elderly; highlighting the life expectancy at birth of 80 years. In this sense, there is still much to be done, since it is not only a question of living longer but of doing so with quality.

The fight against the Aedes aegypti mosquito is always an issue to be analyzed. In the past, dengue transmission was recorded, but the disease was controlled thanks to timely interventions and health promotion and prevention actions. However, it is a battle of perseverance that cannot be breathed; this is well known by the personnel in this area.

For the current calendar, it is also proposed to advance in the process of computerization, develop research that responds to the health care, strengthen the preparation of undergraduate and graduate students, and achieve accreditation of the service network.

At the close of the debate, the First Secretary of the PCC expressed his appreciation to these professionals and encouraged them to defend this worthy profession on the basis of their daily work. He said that the greatest satisfaction for the health personnel should be the gratitude of the families.
