ACINOX Las Tunas boosts on science and innovation processes

ACINOX Las Tunas Stainless Steel Company begins this New Year with a project that will last until 2030, which aims to establish a program for economic recovery and become a high-tech entity.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- To achieve this purpose, a classroom has already been created with the University-Enterprise link of Metallurgical Engineering, for the initial training of 15 doctors and 13 masters.

ACINOX Las Tunas is the second most important company of its kind in Cuba, behind the capital Antillana de Acero, both for the production of billets and corrugated bars, hence the importance of promoting it technologically.

Neyxi Sobrado, an official of the steel plant, explained to the Cuban News Agency that, in 2022, the machinery was paralyzed for five months due to the high level of energy consumption it demands, but the collective reoriented the functions to take advantage of their knowledge.

Professionals and technicians were activated to provide services to several sectors of the province, such as Hydraulic Resources, Public Health, and the Food Industry, mainly through inventions and restoration of machinery and accessories.

The recovery of water pumping equipment and generators, the production of baby cradles for newborns, footstools, and IV poles destined for the Doctor Ernesto Guevara General Teaching Hospital, and the manufacture of tools used in the construction industry, by making use of the scraps of production accumulated in previous stages, were some of ACINOX's incursions while steel production was paralyzed.

In addition to the service provided to other entities that needed this qualified force, this way, revenues of more than 60 million pesos were achieved, said Neyxi Sobrado, who emphasized the benefits for the economy and the value of the new experience.
