Traffic accidents are a painful scourge

Authorities of the Ministry of the Interior in this municipality of Las Tunas reported that, despite the preventive measures and the call for caution to both drivers and pedestrians, the accident rate continues to show disturbing figures, after compiling the period from January to August.

Majibacoa, Las Tunas.- During this period there were 35 traffic accidents in Majibacoa, with 27 injured, 3 deaths, and the damage to the country's economy that these tragedies always bring with them.

The most affected Popular Councils are Gastón with 10 accidents, Naranjo with 8, and Calixto, the municipal capital, which has reported 6 traffic accidents so far this year.

The main causes of these unfortunate events continue to be the ingestion of alcoholic beverages, not paying due attention to vehicle control, improper overtaking, speeding and not respecting traffic signs.

Majibacoa is a very dispersed territory and has the peculiarity of being bordered by two central roads, the one that leads to Granma province, in the south; and the one that links Las Tunas with Holguín, right in the center of the municipality.

These conditions undoubtedly favor the occurrence of traffic accidents here, since, being national roads, vehicular traffic is abundant, which increases the risks. Nevertheless, the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior believe that the current accident figures can be reduced since it has been demonstrated in the majority of cases that the human factor was responsible and that this cause is completely preventable.

Traffic accidents are now among the main causes of death in Cuba and also cause considerable damage to the country's economy every year, a situation that can be reversed if all road users act more responsibly and courteously.
