May Day: "For Cuba, united, we will win"

Once again, the COVID-19 forces us not to parade through our plazas; however, farmers in Las Tunas show their commitment to the Revolution this May Day from the groove, which is their trench in the face of the new threat, because they know that food production is a priority in the current context.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In dialogue with Yoel Martínez Vargas, delegate of Agriculture in this territory, he reported that the workers of the sector, as part of the actions adopted in the country and motivated by World Proletariat Day, are immersed in the implementation of the 63 measures recently announced, which will revitalize the development of food production.

He explained that “the creation of new areas dedicated to the production of various crops is a step forward to achieve these purposes; however, other factors also influence good yields. The objective is to carry out a spring campaign that allows increasing productive results.

May Day from the groove

“Today, it is a priority to respond to the Revolution, for this we also focus on strengthening the productive poles of Fleitas and Turcios Lima, in Manatí; La Guabina and Gayol, in Puerto Padre; El Retiro and La Yaya, in ‘Jesús Menéndez’; and Las Coloradas, in Majibacoa.

“Likewise, Majagual and Calera, in Las Tunas; Dos Hermanos and Macagua, in Jobabo; Las Mercedes, in ‘Colombia’; and La Olema and the development plan of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), in ‘Amancio’."

The State adopts measures to smooth the roads for the progress of food production; the access of the agricultural sector to bank loans for investments and the viability of acquiring fuel are proof of this. "It is up to us now, together with key entities and factors in each municipality, to make its implementation more feasible and to support the country with more productions for feeding the people."

Investments don't stop either. The 29 works of the sector in the province, with more than 52 million pesos executed, already show progress steps. The assembly of two irrigation machines in the municipality of “Jesús Menéndez,” the six poultry ships at the Andrés Leyva farm in Puerto Padre, and others related to pig production and vegetable, fruit, and grain processing industries stand out.

“All the men and women who work in agricultural production in Las Tunas, in the midst of this pandemic of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, are committed to working; we know that today, it is vital to take advantage of the rains for planting and thus fulfill the plans,” he concluded.
