Cotopaxi volcano

Ecuadorian authorities on Tuesday urged the population to take protective measures against ashes falling from the Cotopaxi volcano, located in the southern region of Pichincha province.

Quito.- The Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School (IGEPN) and the National Service of Risk and Emergency Management reported that the volcanic ashes have slightly impacted southern regions of Quito.

Pictures footage of citizens showing ashes on cars and windows are presently circulating in social networks.

On Twitter, the IGEPN posted that there were seismic signals in the area of Cotopaxi, located about 45 kilometers southeast of this capital.

The IGEPN shared some satellite footage displaying ash and gas emissions reaching over one kilometer high.

Experts highly recommended wearing masks and goggles to avoid damage to the respiratory tract and eyes, as well as clothing to cover most of the body. (PL)
