Brasilia.- The statement was made by the Italian sociologist and writer Domenico de Masi, who visited the ex-union leader in the headquarters of the Federal Police in Curitiba, the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Parana, where Lula is serving time for alleged corruption.
According to De Masi, Lula "asked to say that he has great dignity and will never negotiate his freedom with his dignity."
Speaking to reporters and members of the Free Lula Vigil, De Masi reaffirmed that the ex-president is very well regarding his psychological and intellectual state and "continues to be a great political leader, the most important in the world today."
Even in prison, Lula's prestige continues, he stressed.
The Italian intellectual and the former president expressed gratitude for the mobilization of the Vigil, which has been staged near the Federal Police since political imprisonment of the founder of the Workers' Party (PT) started.
According to De Masi, Lula warned that the left wing's struggle is not for a short term, but for a long term, "but at the end of that road, there will be a better left wing than the one that existed at the beginning of that road." (PL)
